The only thing larger than the mountain of frosting coating her cupcakes is the owner of Couture Cupcake Café’s heart.
I walked in asking for a few cupcakes to try, and left with 13 cupcakes, a snickers latte and a gelato sampling in hand. It’s official, I’m in love.
This shabby-chic, Paris-themed cupcake shop offers beverages (coffee, tea, smoothies and soda), Venice-imported gelato, muffins and the best cupcakes I’ve ever had. Owner Kathi has previously baked for red carpet events, Oprah and has recently created a football cake for Brian Urlacher.
She uses only the best of the best: ingredients are imported from France, and the coffee is organic and ground in an award-winning roaster (try the “snickers” espresso!) Kathi has organized her multitude of cupcake flavors into different collections, my personal favorite being the “vintage” collection featuring Jimmy Choo, Chanel, Burberry and Dior cupcakes. Kathi also offers savory cupcakes (try the “Chai Tea!”), “man cakes”, “kid cakes”, gluten-free and vegan cupcakes as well as wedding/special event cakes and cupcakes. Kathi’s cupcakes are both beautiful and delicious, with edible sparkles, melt-in-your-mouth frosting and moist cake that will please the toughest of cupcake critics!
Kathi delivers to the North Shore on a daily basis and is in Chicago at least 4 times a week: according to Kathi, “people realize our ingredients are different.” Couture Cupcake Café is open Monday-Saturday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday, 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.
