Scarf It Up

Scarves can take your look from functional to fabulous with a few simple tricks. And given that winter is coming (sigh) it’s time to master the most versatile accessory. Here’s how.

A simple knot. Even a scarf amateur can master this. Take the scarf and tie it into a knot around your neck. This two-tone scarf (pictured right) makes this look especially interesting. Like this scarf? See below for how to win one. Two lucky readers will each get one!) $310, Margo Petitti

Off the shoulders. A larger scarf or pashmina works best here as you drape the scarf loosely around your shoulders and secure into a knot mid-chest. Equally chic with a tee or cocktail dress. $78, Nordstrom

Artsy. To style the blue/gray scarf with the fringe, fold the scarf into a triangle. Put the center point of the triangle in the front and wrap the two ends around the back of neck, crossing them and bringing them around to the front.  Tie the ends into a single knot. Adjust fringe as needed. Voila! $14.95, H&M, Editor’s note: H&M doesn’t sell online, but has locations throughout the area.

Just a touch of ruffles. A timeless favorite. Take your scarf and fold it in half. Put it around your neck, loose ends on the left side and the loop side on the right. Pull the loose ends through the loop and you’ll be the most fabulous gal in the room. $38, Nordstrom

Keep in mind that one scarf can be tied in many different ways and that scarves are seasonless. Enjoy!
