Better Makers: YWomen Leadership Awards

The YWCA Evanston/North Shore hosted its eighth annual YWomen Leadership Awards on Oct. 15 in Evanston. More than 400 guests gathered to honor Delores Holmes, Sunny Fischer and Blair Brettschneider for their remarkable commitment to women’s empowerment, racial justice and social change. The event raised nearly $150,000 to benefit YWCA programs including financial literacy classes and domestic violence services, which are offered free of charge to the community.

Presented by BMO Harris Bank and chaired by Susan Hope Engel, the evening featured a silent auction, dinner and awards presentation. In addition to the YWomen Leadership Awards, the organization presented Evanston Township High School student Sylvannah Lang with the 2015 YWCA Evanston/North Shore Education Award, a scholarship given to a college-bound young woman with great academic potential.
