Amazing Seniors

In life’s second act, many of us hit our stride. We follow a passion, pursue a calling or start giving back to our communities.

While the first act might be focused on achievement, career and raising a family, the second act allows us to do more and be more. This expansive view of life beyond 50 inspired us to find the amazing seniors among us who are using their considerable talents, energy and experience to make it better in the northern suburbs.

So this month we’re introducing you to:

Betty Stuart Rodgers Jeffries: a pioneering photographer

John Whalen: a volunteer sales manager whose selling savvy nets $300,000 each year for a senior center

Lee Frank: a professional cuddler who holds babies waiting to be adopted

Peter R. Sawers: a high-powered business exec who mentors nonprofits

Dr. Robert Buchanan: a physician working to bring quality health care to Pakistan

Ruth Abelson: a talented seamstress who has costumed hundreds of kids. Each one of them is thriving in their second act.
