Reimagined Garden Party Empowers Women in the Fight Against Alzheimer’s – Donate And Double Your Impact Today

The Alzheimer’s Association will host its annual Power of Purple benefit event on Sunday, June 13 at noon to raise funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research.

Illinois Women Conquer ALZ (IWCA), a membership group focused on bringing more women into the fight to end Alzheimer’s, will present the event for the fourth year. The program will highlight Alzheimer’s unique impact on women and the latest in the search for a cure. IWCA will present an award to one family caregiver in recognition of their time and energy caring for a loved one with dementia.

These Illinois Women Touched by Alzheimer’s are Leading the Charge to Raise Awareness and Find a Cure

This year’s live virtual event will feature Emcee Jeanne Sparrow (On-Air Personality, V103/WVAZ Chicago), Meredith Marks (The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City and jewelry designer) and Neelum T. Aggarwal, MD (Associate Professor, Department of Neurological Sciences, Rush Alzheimer’s Disease Center; Research Director, Rush Heart Center for Women; Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer, American Medical Women’s Association.)

In addition to the inspiring program, Power of Purple will include a silent auction, open from June 9 to June 13. Registered guests will be able to browse and bid on exclusive packages, VIP experiences and luxury goods. All funds raised at the event will support Alzheimer’s care, research, and advocacy efforts across the state.

Alzheimer’s support

The Alzheimer’s Association is the largest nonprofit funder of dementia research, and IWCA was created in response to the staggering impact Alzheimer’s has on women. Two-thirds of Americans living with Alzheimer’s are women. Sixty percent of unpaid dementia caregivers are women; in 2020, that amounted to an estimated 228,600 individuals in Illinois alone. One-third of female caregivers are daughters, and twenty-five percent are “sandwich generation” caregivers who care for a child while providing care to a parent.

When we consider these numbers, it becomes clear just how critical it is to provide care and support services to all who need them.
