Holy Trinity High School: Empowering Tomorrow’s Leaders Today

Holy Trinity High School

Holy Trinity High School is a Catholic co-educational school located in the heart of Chicago. Founded in 1910 by the Brothers of Holy Cross, Holy Trinity has been an anchor of Catholic education in the city for more than a century. Serving students from 55 different ZIP codes, Holy Trinity offers a private education for all students, no matter their family’s ability to pay tuition. More than 85 percent of our students receive scholarships or financial assistance. The Class of 2016 turned $400,000 in high school assistance into more than $5 million in collegiate scholarships and grants. By providing students with access to a high-quality education, Holy Trinity creates opportunities for students who might have otherwise gotten lost in the public school system to succeed in high school, in college and in life.

Each year, Holy Trinity raises vital funds for our students through the Guardians of Hope Dinner. This year we are proud to honor Elizabeth (Liza) Yntema and Mark Ferguson on March 3, 2017, at Navy Pier’s Grand Ballroom.

Mark Ferguson and Elizabeth (Liza) Yntema.

Liza and Mark are active philanthropists in the city of Chicago who support education, youth outreach and the arts, among many other causes. Their work includes major support of organizations including the Chicago Parks Foundation, WTTW, the Joffrey Ballet, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, Chicago Jazz Philharmonic, Youth Guidance, the Daniel Murphy Scholarship Fund and the Springboard Foundation.

In 2013, Liza and Mark established the Holy Trinity College Visit Program, which provides students and their families with the opportunity to travel to visit colleges or universities that are more than 300 miles from Chicago. Since then, Holy Trinity students have traveled to 30 colleges and universities in 10 states across the country. These students earned more than $1.5 million in collegiate scholarships and grants that might not otherwise have been accessible to them. The program has also expanded a College 101 course to prepare students for life on campus.

In the fall of 2015, Liza shared her passion for rowing and helped establish the first-ever Holy Trinity girls’ rowing program. Through Liza’s leadership and belief in empowering young women, a group of Holy Trinity students learned the basics of rowing, began a regimented training program, learned water-safety skills, and in May 2016, competed in their first-ever regatta. Thanks to Liza and Mark’s commitment to providing these new opportunities, Holy Trinity students have expanded their horizons in high school and beyond.

More than 600 guests are expected to join in celebrating 106 years of commitment to the Chicago community and its youth. For more information and to get tickets, click here.
