Back-to-School Fashion Pre-Requisites: Little Sprout Edition

Teachers send a list of school supplies for your little munchkins’ new year of school, so we decided to do the same for fashion.

After consulting moms and a couple pre-k and elementary school teachers, we’ve pinpointed a few of the trends that should be in your kids’ closet this fall.

Pre-K Girls

From voluminous tutus to prim and proper jumpers, little girls love dresses. This cute terry cloth dress from Gap’s new Bryant Park Collection combines comfort and that coveted girly-ness—perfect for playing on the monkey bars or afternoon tea with her favorite teddy bear. Boots are also key this season, no matter how old you are. These b.o.c. boots will look great with jeans or a skirt.

Pre-K Boys

Nearly every retailer is carrying a version of a rugby shirt for boys this fall.  With a playful team emblem adhered to his chest, your little guy will confidently walk into his preschool classroom. Pair it with some comfy jeans, classic Chuck Taylors, and a mini backpack for a complete look.

Animal prints are “the” pattern for the fall. Your little lady will look sophisticated and funky in this leopard print cardigan and jewel tone corduroys. Pump up the look with a bright bag and she’ll be the chicest girl in the lunchroom.

Elementary School Boys

It was a necessity to have a pair of shorts in this dusty berry color during the summer, and the trend has continued into the fall. Available in both a washed out red (pictured) and a more vibrant burgundy from J.Crew, these chinos are a great pop of color for a boy’s mostly blue wardrobe. Complement this hue with neutrals and navy to make his outfit look more cool than crazy.
