Jazzy Nights on the Town at Evanston’s Q2

Q2, the terrific little bar next to Quince Restaurant, is ringing in the warm weather with a fresh new jazz series.

Top Chicago-area jazz artists will perform on the first and third Thursday of the month in the intimate venue. Amazingly, there is no cover charge.

Emmy-winning composer and musician Steve Rashid is curating the series for Homestead and Quince owners Holly and David Reynolds. Rashid and jazz mandolin player/guitarist Don Steirnberg opened the run with a two-set performance on April 8 to a highly appreciative SRO crowd. The music ranged from Steven Bishop to Mose Allison, with a number of original Rashid pieces in between. Ear pleasing from start to finish.

Be forewarned: The bar food here is addictive, and the inventive martini list and deep wine selections will slake your thirst. We loved the crispy and spicy Chicken Spring Rolls with cucumber-mint relish; Executive Chef Andy Motto’s legendary Liquid Cauliflower Raviolis stuffed with smoked salmon literally burst with flavor in your mouth.

Seating is limited and the show starts at 7:30 p.m., so be sure to get there a little early to score a seat.

Q2’s Upcoming Live Music Lineup:
May 6: Brazilian Guitarist/singer Paulinho Garcia and Michael Allermana
May 20: Guitarist John Moulder and Bassist Kelly Sill
June 3: Paulinho Garcia and Michael Allemana
June 17: Jazz Mandolinist Don Steirnberg and Guitarist Andy Brown
