How much is too much? That’s the question at the heart of Emerald City Theatre’s delightful new production, “Pinkalicious: The Musical.”
The play, based on the best selling picture book, shows what happens when one little girl eats too many pink cupcakes. What ensues is a colorful case of “Pinkititis,” complete with a zany doctor, a put-upon brother and the understanding that all things (even pink cupcakes) are best in moderation.
Lara Mainier shines as the sassy and spunky Pinkalicious as does her brother Peter, portrayed by Mark Kosten. Show stopping tunes include “Pinkititis” performed by Ashley Braxton as Dr. Wink, and Kosten’s “I’ve Got the Pink Blues,” which will turn many in the audience green with envy. The play is directed and choreographed by Ernie Nolan, the Producing Artistic Director for Emerald City Theatre.
The theme of healthy eating will resonate with parents who can use the play and the free parent guide as a springboard for conversations about health and nutrition. Like all Emerald City Theatre productions, the play is interactive and includes a free children’s playbill, an optional pre-show art activity, and plenty of time to mix and mingle with the cast after the show.
“Pinkalicious: The Musical” runs through January 7, 2012 at the Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place, located at 175 E. Chestnut Street in Chicago. For information about tickets and show times, click here or call the Broadway in Chicago ticket line at 1-800-775-2000.
