Pumpkin Palooza: The Complete Pumpkin Product Primer

Cinnamon. Vanilla. Nutmeg. PUMPKIN. ‘Tis the season for pumpkin spice and its myriad permutations.

Think you’re a pumpkin fanatic because you started using the #PSL back in August? That’s just the tip of the iceberg. Starbucks may have jumped the gun on official pumpkin season (aka October), but Trader Joe’s, Argo Tea, Target and just about every major food and beverage retailer has made up for lost time with a plethora of products in virtually every category.

If you’re looking for a pumpkin fix, look no further. Here’s what you need to know.

Chobani Pumpkin Greek Yogurt flat-out rocks. It is perfectly spiced and not too sweet. Go buy it now—I found it at my neighborhood Jewel.

Also on grocery store shelves now: Coffeemate in Pumpkin Spice; Pillsbury Supreme Collection Pumpkin Crème Cake; Archer Farms Pumpkin Pancake & Waffle Mix; Duncan Hines Limited Edition Decadent Pumpkin Spice Cupcakes with Pumpkin Spice Frosting; Planters Pumpkin Spice Almonds; Pumpkin Pie Pop Tarts; Pumpkin Spice Jell-O; Kraft Philadelphia Pumpkin Spice Cream Cheese; Edy’s Pumpkin Spice Ice Cream; Brach’s Pumpkin Spice Candy Corn; Pumpkin Spice Oreos and Krusteaz Pumpkin Spice Cookie Mix. By the way, this is by no means an exhaustive listing, although typing it has exhausted me.

Liquid Pumpkins!

Looking for your favorite winter squash in liquid form, but don’t want to shell out another dime for the Starbucks PSL (although, full disclosure, you can get it in Via instant form now at most supermarkets)? Argo Tea has a great Pumpkin Chai; the “health conscious” might opt for Odwalla Pumpkin Protein Juice, So Delicious Pumpkin Spice Coconut Milk or Bolthouse Farms Pumpkin Spice Latté. Like your beverage a bit more adult? Kennebunkport Brewing Co. (KBC) Pumpkin Ale is one of many seasonal beers, or you can skew a little harder with Crop Spiced Pumpkin-Flavored Vodka or even Kahlúa Pumpkin Spice.

Pumpkin Palooza!

And then, there’s Trader Joe’s, which takes its pumpkin products VERY seriously. You can always find Organic Pumpkin Purée and the delectable Pumpkin Butter at TJs. But only in October can you find Pumpkin Cornbread Mix, Pumpkin Pancake and Waffle Mix (also available in gluten-free), Pumpkin-Cranberry Scone Mix, Pumpkin Cornbread Croutons, Pumpkin Bread Mix, Pumpkin Bar Mix, Pumpkin Biscotti, Pumpkin Joe-Joe’s (TJ’s nod to the Oreo), even Pumpkin-Spiced Pumpkin Seeds. But wait, there’s more! For your sweetest tooth, grab the Dark Chocolate Pumpkin Spice Salted Caramels, Pumpkin Seed Brittle, frozen Pumpkin Croissants, Country Pumpkin Spice Granola Cereal or the Iced Pumpkin Scone Cookies.

You Smell Like October

For the truly hardcore, you and your home can smell like the ubiquitous pumpkin spice. June Jacobs Spa Collection is pushing a “Perfect Pumpkin” Enzyme Polish, while Philosophy makes a Homemade Pumpkin Pie Shower Gel, and Nest Fragrances has countered with a Pumpkin Chai Scented Candle.

Meanwhile, Sexy Hair has an ENTIRE LINE of pumpkin products, including a Pumpkin Purée Mask and a Whipped Pumpkin Soufflé Styling Créme. And if you’re really committing to this whole pumpkin thing, it’s time for the Glade Pumpkin Spice Air Freshener Spray.

And never fear: Pumpkin season doesn’t last forever, but peppermint season is just on the horizon. I see you, Peppermint Mocha Latté!
