Royal George Theatre: “SPANK! The 50 Shades Parody”

theatre-spank-50-shades“SPANK! The Fifty Shades Parody” has rolled into town and the Royal George Theatre might never be the same.

Based loosely on the E L James bestselling novel, the play pokes fun at the “mommy porn” genre with song, dance, improvisation and even some audience participation (front row seats, you’ve been warned!)

Written and directed by Jim Millan, whose credits include “Kids in the Hall” and  “Mythbusters Live,” the show seamlessly combines raunchy humor with self-parody. Amanda Barker is laugh-out loud funny as E B Janet, a mommy-turned-erotic-novelist who, with the help of her computer and a few glasses of Chardonnay, creates a fantasy for the ages. Drew Moerlein is pitch perfect as Hugh Hanson, a Christian Grey-like character, who gleefully sings song parodies of his latest conquests, his desire to tie up and dominate and the wonders of his torture room. He also performs a jaw-dropping dance number that could rival any of the performances from this summer’s hit movie “Magic Mike.” Rounding out the cast is Michelle Vezilj (Tasha Wood) a wide-eyed innocent who is open to just about everything and anything that comes her way.

If you’re looking for a sassy night with the girls or a fun night out with friends, this show might just be your fantasy come true (handcuffs not included).

“SPANK! The Fifty Shades Parody” runs through December 16 at the Royal George Theatre. For information about show times and tickets visit Ticketmaster or call 312-988-9000. Be sure to ask about their VIP tickets, which offers premium seating and a cast meet and greet.
