If you happen to drive around the North Shore on Wednesday, June 29, you’ll likely see groups of female friends walking around the Glencoe and Highland Park neighborhoods.
These women are touring homes for a cause.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Chicago Lighthouse Associate Board’s Annual House and Garden Walk. Each year, North Shore families generously volunteer their homes so others can walk through and observe beautiful and unique decor. Docents are on hand in each house to answer questions about the furniture and antiques. This year’s walk will feature a tour of 4 homes with a final house offering complimentary homemade desserts. The dessert house will also sell the board’s popular cookbook, “Indulge.”
Lynn Muslin, Highland Park resident and Chicago Lighthouse Board member, explains, “What’s wonderful about the Chicago Lighthouse Associate Board is the support and contributions we’ve been able to give to various foundations that truly make a difference in people’s lives.”
In the last 25 years, the Associate Board has raised almost $1.4 million for children, seniors and family support services, such as Birth to Three Family Intervention Program, which aids children from birth to age 3 who are blind or visually impaired. The board also donates to the Low Vision Clinic, Seniors Program and Development Center for blind and multi-disabled children.
Cheryl Kraff-Cooper, Highland Park resident, board member, and former board president, says, “Our board represents a great group of women from Chicago and the North Shore. We’re an entirely volunteer organization and welcome those who would like to get involved.”
Not only is the walk a fun summer activity to partake in with friends, it’s nice to know that your good time is benefiting an exceptional cause. The House and Garden Walk runs from 10 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. and begins at The Lakeside Congregation in Highland Park at 1221 Country Line Rd.
Tickets may be purchased in advance for $60 and gourmet lunches may be ordered for $15. For tickets, contact Special Events at 312-997-3679 or Lynn Muslin at 847-433-5917.
