Founded in 1993, the Environmental Law & Policy Center is the Midwest’s leading environmental legal advocacy organization. The work of the ELPC is essential in the protection of the Midwest’s environment, all the way from the Great Lakes to the Great Plains.
The ELPC’s multidisciplinary staff of attorneys, business specialists, and public policy advocates work together to develop and lead strategic advocacy campaigns that connect economic development and environmental progress, in addition to protecting the Midwest’s natural resources.
Thanks to the ELPC, environmental policy has been implemented across the Midwest, such as the Illinois Renewable Electricity Standard in 2016, which will drive 3,000 MW of new solar energy projects and 1,350 MW of wind power by 2030. In 2019, the ELPC successfully halted the expansion of Route 53 in Chicago’s northern suburbs to protect wetlands, prevent flooding, and save drivers from expensive tolls.

“Together Again” was the theme of ELPC’s 2021 Gala, which featured several special guest speakers such as Senator Tammy Duckworth, White House National Climate Advisor Gina McCarthy, and CNN Political Commentator David Axelrod. This event was a massive success, raising $300,000 for Midwest climate initiatives that will help shape a cleaner environment for every person living in the Midwest, along with future generations.
