New Trier Accepts Donations of Winter Gear Through Dec. 17

The Service Learning Committee at New Trier High School’s Northfield Campus is launching its first local partnership with Dulles School in Chicago.

New Trier will be working with Dulles throughout the year to meet the needs of Dulles’ pre-K through 8th grade students and to educate New Trier students about school funding in Illinois and the local community around Dulles School.

Immediate needs for Dulles students include donations of coats, hats, mittens, books, school supplies, and backpacks. New Trier adviser rooms and clubs also will be raising Dollars for Dulles to help fund holiday gifts for students. Donations of coats, also sponsored by the Student Senate, and Dollars for Dulles will be accepted through Dec. 17. Coats can be placed in bins at the entrance of Building B on the Northfield Campus and are also being accepted at all performances of “Iphigenia 2.0” and “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” during the week of Dec. 8.

Northfield Campus support staff also are supporting the effort by placing Dollars for Dulles collection jars on their desks.

Dulles School is located at 63rd and Michigan on the south side of Chicago. The student population is categorized as 100% low-income. Dulles is a turnaround school, with new staff put in place by Chicago Public Schools in an effort to promote student achievement.
