When Everyone Wins–Bark 4 Care

Partnerships. The very meaning of the word speaks to a mutually beneficial relationship. And that’s just what happens when not-for-profits partner with Make It Better.

Bark 4 Care promotes awareness and acceptance of biological brain disorders, such as ADHD, bipolar disorder, anxiety and depression. Twelve-year-old Betsy Kaplan started the organization because she saw a need to raise mental health awareness, and she and her mother, Denise, have been striving to create awareness of the organization as well as the cause it supports.

“There is no ‘cure’ or clear treatment path for these brain disorders,” says Denise, Bark 4 Care president. “And talking about them is looked down upon. Bark 4 Care helps to raise awareness and to erase the negativity that surrounds these true medical illnesses.”

Enter Make It Better.

Last November, Bark 4 Care held its first shopping fundraiser, and the organization was looking for assistance with promotion of its fundraiser.

With event coordinator Stacy Saltzman from So Stacy Events on board, the group finalized plans, creating a network of local businesses that would offer discounts to shoppers for a donation to Bark 4 Care.

The organization then approached Make It Better to partner up. As part of their week-long event, Bark 4 Care promoted a Make It Better subscription drive, harnessing the power of our long-standing promise to donate $5 to not for profits each time someone subscribes to the weekly e-mail Better Letter and/or the magazine.

The result? Make It Better grows its network of readers, reaching out to more North Shore residents, while non profits such as Bark 4 Care net a significant donation from Make It Better on top of its shop-for-a-cause efforts.

“The support [Make It Better] gave us online was wonderful,” Denise says. “Any updates to our event were posted online so quickly, and the information was kept up to date. It was definitely a win-win.”
