Winnetka Resident Claims Mayfest Crown

Winnetka’s own Caitlin Marie Bischoff was crowned May Queen 2011 at the 12th annual Mayfest in Chicago last Friday, June 3.

At age 16, Bischoff, daughter of Janet and Barry Bischoff, is a sophomore at New Trier High School.

Mayfest was held June 3-5 in Lincoln Square, and is the traditional German celebration of spring’s arrival. The fest featured live music, maypole dancing, and, of course, German food and beer. The Mayfest Queen was chosen at Friday’s opening ceremony.

Upon receiving her crown from the president of the Mayfest Committee, Bischoff said, “I’m honored to continue this tradition and look forward to representing the United German-American Societies of Greater Chicago this year.”

Bischoff will be a part of the annual Von Steuben Parade on Lincoln Avenue on September 10. This parade is then followed by the German-American Fest. Chosen based on her and her family’s long time involvement with Chicago’s German-American community, no doubt the Bischoff family will be present to celebrate German traditions and culture!
