Rooms With a View: Gorgeous Chicago Event Venues

Rooms With A View: LondonHouse

If you want to really “wow” your guests at your next big event, consider a venue that shows off our beautiful city in all its grandeur. Just think: You won’t have to spend loads of money on excessive decorations, flowers or table toppers — the lights and beauty of Chicago and the lake are bright and spirited enough. Sweet Home Chicago.

Events of All Sizes at The Lakewood and HighGround

Nestled in the heart of the trendy and industrial West Lake District sit two modern venues that can accommodate a range of event sizes: The Lakewood is ideal for around 150 seated dinner invitees and HighGround, great for casual, small groups of around 50 seated friends or 80 guests for cocktail parties. Chef Devon Quinn offers seasonal and freshly prepared fare—including dazzling dishes that utilize vegetables, herbs and edible flowers from the Paramount greenhouse—and the Paramount Events team can take care of your every need from start to finish, bringing your ideas and wishes to life. The Lakewood, 1758 W. The Peninsula Chicago has one of the best locations in the city. Stunning views of the Magnificent Mile can be seen out of the glamorous windows of the Grand Ballroom, and the customizable space can be arranged in myriad ways to suit your party size. The Ave.s Ballroom, which can accommodate a smaller group, has showstopping views of Water Tower Park and Michigan Ave.. Our favorite is the Lobby with its 20-foot windows that overlook The Peninsula’s Terrace. The Lobby is where the famed Afternoon Tea is served, and could be the ideal location for a smaller celebration, ladies lunch or bridal fete. Plus, the Lobby has a Chocolate Bar on Friday and Saturday evenings — need we say more? 108 E. Superior St., Chicago, 312-337-2888

Chicago’s heart is in its neighborhoods, and Wicker Park and Bucktown are two areas that are known for bohemian art, music, independent shops and cafes, fun nightlife and an overall lively atmosphere. Sleek and sexy, The Robey, located at the intersections of Damen, Milwaukee and North Ave.s, is a boutique property with panoramic Chicago views, and it sits in a gorgeous 1929 Art Deco building. Several unique spaces are available that offer the “wow” factor. The Robey Lounge, a fun location for cocktail and dance parties or intimate dinners, has a wine bar, café and private and semi-private rooms for meetings and events. If live music or DJs are your thing, The Cabana Club is available — two full bars (indoor and outdoor, poolside), a large communal dining table and incredible views of the Wicker Park neighborhood are big pluses. Finally, Up & Up is The Robey’s rooftop cocktail lounge, ideal for 35–75 guests, which features a cool private table in the Grotto Tower and sweeping views of the Chicago skyline. 2018 W. Spiaggia, located in Streeterville, is one of the most elegant, visually stunning, Michelin one-star restaurants in Chicago. James Beard award-winning chef Tony Mantuano creates delicious Italian dishes that can be enjoyed while admiring the view out of the windows that look out onto Michigan Ave.. The restaurant can accommodate a guest from as few as 10 people to as many as 300. Spiaggia can arrange fun interactive classes for your group as well: olive oil and balsamic tastings, cooking demos, cocktail-making classes and more. Café Spiaggia, which was remodeled in 2015, is a lovely space with subtle pops of color, and a fabulous choice for intimate gatherings and celebrations. 980 N. Michigan Ave., 2nd Floor, Chicago, 312-280-2750

New Life For an Old Standby at Navy Pier

For breathtaking views of the lake and the Chicago skyline, take a peek at the iconic Navy Pier for your next event — you probably know the Pier in some capacity, but you may not have enjoyed attending a wedding or other big bash here. Choose from Festival Hall, a versatile space that can be divided into two smaller spaces; the historic Aon Grand Ballroom, with 80-foot domed ceilings and sweeping views; Lakeview Terrace, an open and unique urban loft space; or The Crystal Gardens, an indoor botanical garden haven, complete with palm trees, strung lights and a six-story atrium. 600 E. Grand Ave., Chicago, 312-595-7437

Award-Winning Events at The Gwen

In the Midwest, The Gwen stands out as one of the best places to host an event. In fact, the property featured on the 2016 Successful Meetings Pinnacle Award list for Best Overall Hotel/Resort. With their creative indoor and outdoor spaces and ability to comfortably accommodate up to 300 guests, it’s easy to see why The Gwen would receive such an award. Plus, overnight guests will enjoy the access to Chicago’s best shops, including a covered entryway into The Shops at North Bridge and Nordstrom. Be sure to check their website for deals — The Gwen has excellent packages for weddings and events that include special dining menus, discounted room rates and complimentary upgrades. The Shops at North Bridge, 521 N.
