Fresh Thyme Farmers Market hosted their second annual golf classic on Thursday, Aug. 25, with proceeds benefiting Mission 22, an organization that raises awareness of veteran suicide. More than 300 people participated in the event, which was held at Cog Hill Country Club.
Mission 22 is a national nonprofit organization that was founded by veterans suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder after returning from active duty. The project works to raise awareness of and end suicide among veterans, while raising donations to provide treatment for veterans suffering from PTSD, Traumatic Brain Injury and other conditions.
“Veteran suicide is a cultural epidemic and an American problem that requires the support of an entire community,” says Magnus Johnson, eight-year-veteran and Mission 22 co-founder. “When we shed light on the issue, veterans will no longer suffer alone.”
Since 2015, Fresh Thyme has donated more than $300,000 to the organization. Last year’s inaugural golf classic raised more than $125,000. Through these donations, Mission 22 provides services such as Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy and physical fitness training to veterans. Additionally, a program to work with individual stores to hire veterans is currently in the works.
Those interested in giving to Mission 22 can donate on their website.
