Buy Local, Read Anywhere with Make It Better and Kobo

There’s nothing better than spending a lazy summer afternoon reading a new book.

If you’re jetting off somewhere warm and sunny but don’t have room for all of your beach reads in your carry-on, this app allows you to knock out summer reads on your electronic device AND support local bookstores.

The invention of the e-book has many people worried about the future of the print industry; some small, local bookstores are struggling to stay open due to the rising demand for digital books. Kobo, an online e-book store, has partnered with Make It Better and the American Booksellers Association to support local-treasure bookstores through the ease of e-reading.

Simply download the Kobo app to your smartphone, tablet or computer, choose from over 4 million titles, and a portion of each purchase will benefit The Book Stall in Winnetka, The Book Bin in Northbrook, or the Lake Forest Book Store. Want to support another beloved local bookstore? Search by zip code to find your favorite. With all the hottest new reads you’ll love, plus thousands of kid-friendly options right at your fingertips, there’s something for the whole family.

In these technological times, it’s important for us to realize the impact these local bookstores have on our communities. They’re always there to make sure our bookshelves are filled with the latest titles and our calendars are filled with author visits and book clubs. Not to mention, they always seem to know what your child’s summer reading book is before you do. These three bookstores have been favorites of North Shore readers for many years and our new partnership with Kobo is the perfect solution to make sure they stick around.

Here at Make It Better, we love sharing our latest reading lists with you. Every time we publish a book recommendation or a review, look for the orange Kobo link on the bottom of the page to download the e-book right to your tablet or smartphone.
