Steppenwolf ensemble members Ora Jones (“Matilda the Musical”) and Jeff Perry (“Scandal”) star in this reading of a rock musical about 50s teen spree killer Charlie Starkweather. “Love Kills” is written by Kyle Jarrow, who also wrote “SpongeBob the Musical,” and the reading will take place in the new 1700 Theatre.

Eyes to the Skies Festival

This annual festival features hot air balloons, tethered balloon rides, live music, food and drink vendors, a carnival, fireworks and more. Best of all, the event has raised more than $450,000 for local charities and organizations.

On Monday morning, enjoy face painting, crafts and a children’s parade with the World’s Tallest Uncle Sam, plus a ceremony with a performance of the National Anthem and a reading of the Declaration of Independence. Then, receive free admission to the museum from noon to 4:30 p.m.

The Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra will be joined by the National Youth Choir of Scotland for a night of patriotic tunes, so pack a picnic and head out to Grant Park to end your long weekend on a high note.
