Chicago is turning 179 and you can celebrate at the Chicago History Museum with free admission, free cake from Eli’s Cheesecake and lemonade (while supplies last), speakers and music. You’ll also receive a certificate if you share the same birthday.

The Illinois Holocaust Museum is hosting a program on equality in sports as part of the “Nazi Olympics: Berlin 1936” exhibit. WBEZ reporter Cheryl Raye-Stout will moderate a discussion with Paralympian Susan Katz, former Chicago Bears tight end Desmond Clark and wrestler Hudson Taylor.

  • Note: The Illinois Holocaust Museum’s 2016 Humanitarian Awards Dinner is March 17. The guest speaker is now former U.S. Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta.

Looking Ahead

  • 42nd Street” opens March 8 at Cadillac Palace Theatre. The show is directed by Mark Bramble and choreographed by Randy Skinner, the team behind the 2001 production that won a Tony Award for Best Musical Revival.
