This weekend, Chicago museums will be offering discounts while more than 200 buildings in the city and suburbs will be open for exploring. Plus, “Romeo & Juliet” opens at The Joffrey Ballet, a fall family fest debuts in Rosemont, and a local foundation hosts a fundraising concert.

Take advantage of discounted admission, special events, giveaways and more at Chicago museums this weekend (and beyond). Participants include Adler Planetarium, The Art Institute of Chicago, The DuSable Museum of African American History, The Field Museum, Museum of Science and Industry, National Museum of Mexican Art and Shedd Aquarium.
“Romeo & Juliet”

Opens Oct. 13
Chicago
This “Romeo & Juliet,” which will feature a multimedia video backdrop, will kick off the Joffrey’s 2016/2017 season. The score will be performed live by the Chicago Philharmonic.
Family Fall Fest

This new event will take place at MB Financial Park and feature balloon sculpting, face painting, magic shows and pumpkin painting. Pumpkin carver Steve Dahlke will also carve a 500-pound pumpkin throughout the day and Chicago 6, a band comprised of 1985 Bears Dan Hampton, Otis Wilson and Steve McMichael with John McFarland and Ed Kammerer, will perform.
Open House Chicago

For 48 hours, 200 buildings around Chicagoland will be open for behind-the-scenes tours as part of this Chicago Architecture Foundation event. Buildings include the Civic Opera House; Alice Millar Chapel, Deering Library and Dearborn Observatory at Northwestern; Garfield Park Conservatory; Ernest Hemingway’s birth home and Union Station.
Syd Rocks Unplugged

Syd Rocks is a Wilmette-based foundation that raises awareness and funds for Langerhan’s Cell Histiocytosis (LCH) research. The foundation will host its Syd Rocks Unplugged fundraiser with live acoustic music by Corky Siegel and Will Tilson, Robbie Fulks, Logan Brill, Jess Godwin, Claudia Mintz, Ampersand, Jordan Avery and Amelia Ward.

- Before the weekend even begins, you can shop for a cause at Evanston’s 3rd annual Charity Wine Walk Oct. 13. More than 60 businesses will be open and serving wine as you shop. Proceeds will benefit Mudlark Theater.
