April showers bring May flowers—but hopefully not this weekend.
No matter the weather, your family can jam with Jack Kaufmann in a concert all about our planet. You can also watch a documentary about a local photographer or take your kids to a film series specialized for them.
Here are five events to make the most of this first weekend in April:
Screening of “Finding Vivian Maier”
Directors John Maloof and Charlie Siskel work to put together the pieces of Vivian Maier’s life in this documentary, which was a selection at film festivals in Berlin, Rio De Janeiro, Miami and Toronto. Plus, don’t miss the “Vivian Maier’s Chicago” exhibit at the Chicago History Museum through the summer or “Vivian Maier—A Photographic Journey” at The Art Center—Highland Park in May.
“Into Dreams” Opening
The work of American illustrators, including Dave Dorman, Douglas Klauba and Aaron B. Miller, will be on display at Hevanston Gallery starting this weekend.
Earth Day Concert

Saturday, April 5
Lincolnshire
Rock out with Jack Kaufmann, a musician and enviornmental ambassador, and bring a used pair of shoes to recycle.
United States Air Force Concert Band and Singing Sergeants
The Concert Band performs classical musical, pop favorites and original works, so there’s a little something for everyone at this show. The Singing Sergants, who have performed for every president since Harry Truman, will join the band.
Children’s Film Series—Chocolate Fingers
Watch nine award-winning short films appropriate for kids age 4 and older. This Sunday’s films will come from the U.S., Germany, Latvia, Russia and the U.K., and the series continues each Sunday in April.
