After a week of shoveling, we could all use a little break. Warm up with two shows, a musical perfect for kids and a date-night-worthy festival. You can also visit the Kohl Children’s Museum without your kids for an adults-only play date.
Or, if this week’s blizzard didn’t faze you, visit Navy Pier for a snow sculpting competition and head out to the Heller Nature Center for more outdoor fun.
Grown Up Play Date: Neverland
Play like a kid again during this adults-only trip to Neverland. In addition to visiting the Kohl Children’s Museum’s 17 exhibits, you can meet exotic animals, play bocce, make your way through the Lost Boys Tree Fort, paint your friend’s face and enjoy food and drinks from The Curragh, Glenview Grind, Oberweis, Pinstripes, Bravo and more.
Rock Around the Clock
Feb. 6-7
Winnetka
If you’re looking for a way to get out of the house but stay inside, check out this original musical by Winnetka Children’s Hour. Set in the 1950s, a town diner might have to close its doors forever. Find out if musician Elton Parsley can save the day.
2nd Annual First Laugh One-Act Fest
This festival, which also takes place Feb. 13-14, features original works by local and regional writers answering the question, “What was your first laugh?” The weekend will also include a full-length play by last year’s festival grand prize winner, Gregory Luick.
Nature Discovery Day
For the sixth year, the Heller Nature Center will host a day of outdoor fun, including nature classrooms, crafts, sledding and cross-country skiing, animals and roasting marshmallows around a campfire.
Snow Days Chicago
You’ve had to look at snow all week, but it never looked this good. Stop by Navy Pier for a snow sculpting competition featuring 14 professional teams from around the world. There will also be kids activities, evening illuminations, an interactive snowboard experience, Shedd’s Magellanic Penguins and more.
