I hate to say it, but the end of summer is here.
But before we grab our sweaters and start munching on pumpkin-flavored everything, here are five events to make the most of this long weekend. Start with a music festival featuring some of the best jazz musicians around before taking in some college football. Families can even enjoy one more fireworks display this summer.
Plus, you have two chances to shop art, including a festival in Milwaukee that will give you a reason for one more road trip.
Chicago Jazz Festival
End August on a high note with this popular festival, which starts Thursday. Find a complete list of performers and concert times here.
Northwestern vs. California
Are you ready for some (college) football? Cheer on the Wildcats whether you buy tickets for the game or simply take in all the action from the comfort of your couch. And of course you should cheer on your own alma mater this weekend as well.
Fireworks at Navy Pier
Summer is going out with a bang at Navy Pier’s last summer fireworks. Before the show, spend the entire day downtown with your family enjoying some of our Best of 2014 winners, including The Art Institute of Chicago and Lincoln Park Zoo.
Third Ward Art Festival
Take one last road trip this summer and visit Milwaukee’s Historic Third Ward, which was recently named one of the country’s top 12 “Art Places.” Not only will you find a great selection of art, but you’ll have a wide array of restaurants, theaters and shops to visit during the rest of your weekend.
Art Fair on the Square
August 31 to September 1
Lake Forest
You can also shop a little closer to home at this Lake Forest show, which is celebrating its 60th anniversary and is sponsored by the Deer Path Art League.
