5 Things to Do: November 7-9

If you’re more likely to sign up for a 5K if there’s chocolate at the finish line, you’re in luck this weekend.

Plus, even though Breast Cancer Awareness Month is over, there’s still a way for you to support research with a fun night out filled with wine and painting.

You can also spend some time with your friends or significant other at a jazz festival in Evanston or a popular art fair at Navy Pier. Or, spend time with your family in Oz with Dorothy and the gang.

Here are five things to do this weekend:

Enjoy girls’ night out while also “Painting It Forward.” In a nation-wide event, Pinot’s Palette will donate $15 to the National Breast Cancer Foundation for every guest on Friday.

Seeing this musical is a great way to get out of the cold and onto the Yellow Brick Road. The show is only an hour long, so it’s perfect for kids.

This festival opens with a rare “Bird with Strings” performance and closes with a concert featuring Charlie Parker classics. In between, enjoy performances by local high school jazz bands and a lecture by Stanley Crouch.

Bonus:

  • One of the nation’s most well-respected exhibitions takes place right here on the North Shore. Don’t miss Antiques + Modernism Winnetka Nov. 7-9, or the show’s preview party on Nov. 6.
  • Spend a day downtown and witness Macy’s on State Street’s Great Tree Lighting and the unveiling of their window display on Saturday at noon with special guest Ryan Seacrest.
