Who’s ready for the weekend?
If you still can’t believe it’s October, head out to Soldier Field for a barbecue event that will make you believe it’s really July. Or, embrace fall and all of its changes with a festival at the Chicago Botanic Garden.
You can also give back this weekend with a 5K walk to raise funds to fight breast cancer or a shopping event that benefits local charities.
Here are five things to get excited about this weekend:
Windy City BBQ Classic
It will feel like summer this weekend as you enjoy all-you-can-eat barbecue, craft beer and live blues music. Plus, dollar-for-dollar proceeds will benefit Operation BBQ Relief, a nonprofit first created in 2011 to help relief efforts in Joplin, Mo.
Fall Bulb Festival
Shop from more than 225 bulbs while also enjoying live music, a harvest market and fall drinks. Kids will love the obstacle course challenge and straw-bale maze, and don’t forget to take a picture in front of the gourd mountain.
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer North Shore 5K Walk
This weekend, there’s more to Northbrook Court than great shopping. Participate in a noncompetitive 5K walk that will raise funds for the American Cancer Society. (Looking for more ways to fight breast cancer? Check out our 15 Favorite Products that Support Breast Cancer Awareness Month!)
Circus in Progress: An Evening of Daring New Work
The Actors Gymnasium is giving the North Shore a sneak peek of the area’s best new pieces of circus art. Professionals and TAG’s advanced students will perform twice on Saturday (4:30 and 7:30 p.m.).
Community Days on Central Street, Evanston
Start your holiday shopping early and give back to the community. Not only will you be shopping local, but businesses will also give part of their profits to area organizations, including The Cradle Evanston Nursery, Connections for the Homeless, Shore Community Services and Y.O.U.
Looking ahead…
- One of the world’s most well-known ballets is coming to the Joffrey Ballet for the first time. “Swan Lake” runs Oct. 15-26 and cannot be missed! Buy your tickets here.
