New in Town: DB3 Donuts in Evanston

Chocolate Doughnuts at DB3 Donuts in Evanston

The whole food world has gone artisanal-donut crazy, and now Evanston has its first gourmet shop devoted to these delicious circular wonders. The only catch? It’s only open on weekends. DB3 Donuts opened in early April next to its parent restaurant, the neighborhood fave Ten Mile House. Owners Robert LaPata, Joe Krouse and Fred Gale have another hit on their hands with this tasty spin-off. During the week, the 1,100-square-foot space does double-duty for private dining or as restaurant overflow; but come Saturday and Sunday, it’s donut time. Choose from “Basic” ($1.50 each) or “Fancy” ($2.75) flavors such as Maple-Cinnamon or Chocolate Ganache topped with Cocoa Krispies. Good, strong coffee comes from Chicago’s Sparrow Coffee Roastery; juices, milk, teas and sodas are also available. You’ll most likely opt for the “DB3 Dozen” deal, a “Pick 12, Pay for 11” situation that is pretty irresistible, especially if you are headed to the nearby Ryan Field for a game, or just want to try them all. I feel you.
