Girly Makeup is the Look for Spring

Oh to be a girl again.

Well, this spring you can be. Delightfully soft makeup trends are coming straight off the season’s hottest runways. According to makeup artists Lynda Coleman and Emma Bruzzesi—who work at Lake Forest’s Bluemercury—here are the five musts for makeup this spring:

Fresh face
Restore your skin’s natural glow by changing up your skin care routine this spring. And start to exfoliate if you aren’t already. Try Trish McEvoy’s Even Skin™ Beta Hydroxy Pads. $65 for 40 pads.

Glowy skin
Show your face in a new and dewy light (and take off 10 years) with an illuminating foundation. Laura Mercier Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer is the perfect lightweight, buildable sheer foundation to try. This formula, which comes in four shades, delivers a youthful, radiant finish, while protecting your skin with SPF 20. $42 for 1.7 oz.

Another possibility is Bobbi Brown’s new Natural Finish Long Lasting Foundation with SPF 15. It’s made with sponge-like powders to absorb excess oil on the surface of the skin, while emollients lock in moisture to ensure that your skin remains perfectly balanced for eight hours. Available in 20 shades. $45 for 1 oz.

Strong brow
This spring is all about the eye. And while it won’t be as dramatic as in seasons past, it will have a much stronger brow to set the stage. Bobbi Brown has just launched a new creamy, blendable Brow Pencil in five shades that will give your eyes (and face!) an instant lift. $20 each and comes with its own sharpener.

Cool colors
Think plum, pink or coral with just a hint of iridescent gray, and you’ll have this spring’s soft color palette. The Deluxe Diamond Eye Shadow Crystal from Trish McEvoy is just what you need to make your eyes sparkle. $20 (compact not included).

Pale lip
Gone are the days of the washed out lipsticks that made us look as if we needed more vitamins. Instead, think a shade darker than your natural lip color and make it shiny. Try Nars’s lip color in “Cruising,” $24.
