Build Muscle and Lose Fat with Emsculpt Neo

Being on the cutting edge of both medical and cosmetic dermatology allows Northshore Dermatology Center to offer the very latest in non-invasive procedures that help people look, feel and be their best.

One of their newest offerings is EMSCULPT NEO, an easy and convenient body shaping treatment for anyone with a few inches to lose who’s looking to achieve better muscle definition and lose fat in targeted areas such as the abdomen, buttocks, thighs, arms or calves.

The procedure is geared to patients with a Body Mass Index of up to 35.2 and uses a novel treatment–radiofrequency heating for fat reduction and high intensity focused electromagnetic energy–for muscle strengthening and toning.

EMSCULPT NEO is ideal for anyone who’s a little overweight, but wants to look more sculpted. They, like so many of us, want to be more buff and see muscle definition,” says Dr. Tina C. Venetos, medical director and founder of Northshore Dermatology, which has three locations in Chicago’s northern suburbs.

Dr. Venetos says EMSCULPT NEO’S impressive results of fat loss and an increase muscle definition are supported by science. Clinical studies suggest that the EMSCULPT NEO on average, results in a 30% reduction in subcutaneous fat and a 25% increase in muscle volume.

In addition to creating more defined muscles and decreasing fat, EMSCULPT NEO is easy for patients to receive. There is no pre-preparation required. A patient lies down on a bed while applicators that simultaneously emit synchronized RF and HIFEM+ energies are applied over the treatment area for 30 minutes.

EMSCULPT NEO works by heating the muscles similar to what a warm up activity does before any workout. In a matter of a few minutes, the temperature in a patient’s layer of subcutaneous fat reaches a level called apoptosis which allows for fat cells to slowly be removed from the body.

“EMSCULPT NEO contracts muscle fibers in intensities that are not achievable during a regular workout” Dr. Venetos says. “As muscles adapt, they increase in the growth and number of muscle fibers and cells.”

During a treatment session, Dr. Venetos says a patient will feel intense yet tolerable muscle contractions along with a sensation of heat that is comparable to a hot stone massage.

“Once an application is completed, a patient can immediately go about their day. They will not need any recovery time,” she says.

Most patients will complete four EMSCULPT NEO  procedures per targeted area, with 5 to10 days between each session. Results are noticeable about three months after the final session.

The results are long lasting as long as a patient continues to practice a healthy lifestyle.

“As long as you maintain your weight at the same level the results will not go away,” Dr. Venetos says.

EMSCULPT NEO, which is approved by the FDA for the five body parts already noted, works well in combination with other EMSCULPT treatments such as EMTONE, another innovative, non-invasive treatment that reduces the appearance of cellulite.

Like EMSCULPT NEO, EMTONE uses radiofrequency technology, but adds targeted pressure energy simultaneously to tighten, firm and tone the skin.

Dr. Venetos reports that EMTONE is the only device on the market that treats all five causes of cellulite, including loss of elasticity, fat cells, fluid retention, poor circulation, and loss of collagen and elastin.

Another breakthrough technology offered at Northshore Dermatology is EMSELLA, which utilizes electromagnetic energy to deliver thousands of supramaximal pelvic floor muscle contractions in a single session. These contractions re-educate the muscles of incontinent patients and allows them to enjoy an improved lifestyle that no longer depends on wearing pads or keeping an eye out for a nearby bathroom.

Five clinical studies have been published that show that 95% of patients who’ve used EMSELLA have reported an improved quality of life.

“You sit in a chair for four, 30 minute treatments and it’s like you’ve done thousands of kegal exercise to build your pelvic muscles,” Dr. Venetos says.

Because Dr. Venetos had already witnessed and confirmed the effectiveness of other EMSCULPT treatments, she was eager to become of the first on the Northshore to offer EMSCULPT NEO to her patients who want to increase their muscle definition and reduce fat.

“It’s something so many people want,” she says. “They may work out four or five days a week, but they want that little extra push that will enable them to show off the muscles in their arms, legs or abdomen that they’ve worked so hard to build.”

Since her practice was already a user of EMSCULPT products, Dr. Venetos was able to introduce EMSCULPT NEO to her patients in advance of other practices.

“I was one of the first to get EMSCULPT NEO,” she says. “I’m thrilled to see how well it is working for my patients.”

Dr. Venetos is a graduate of Loyola University and the University of Illinois College of Medicine. She decided to pursue dermatology after learning about the field from the chairman of the department of dermatology who spoke to her medical school class.

“Dermatology is just so interesting,” she says. “I was captivated by it. I did research in the department of dermatology and decided to pursue it as my profession.”

Dr. Venetos is a board-certified in dermatology and internal medicine and takes pride in Northshore Dermatology Center, which is known its progressive approach and for staying ahead of the curve in terms of offering state-of-the-art treatments and products that can benefit patients.

“We bring excellent medical dermatology and we’re on the cutting edge of a variety of new procedures,” she says.

In addition to EMSCULPT NEO, Northshore Dermatology Center offers a range of other cosmetic procedures including injectables such as Botox, Dysport, Kybella, Juvederm, Restylane, Radiesse, Sculptra and QWO
