Alliance Française de Chicago Fundraiser to Feature Never-Before-Presented Photos by Sandro Miller

French influence has spread across the world, including to the coastal nation of Morocco, a gem in the far reaches of northwest Africa. On May 15, the Alliance Française will transport guests to this colorful, fabled country. Join us as we experience the world through the “Eyes of Morocco.”

Sandro Miller portraitThe centerpiece of this fundraising event will be an exhibition of portraits by award-winning photographer Sandro Miller. Sandro’s “Eyes of Morocco” photos depict, in rich detail and evocative postures and dress, 40 Moroccans from all walks of life. This series has never before been presented to the public, and guests of the Alliance will be the first to lay eyes on these unforgettable portraits.

Sandro is a Chicago native who has won numerous awards for his fine art and commercial photography. He has taken portraits of John Malkovich, Willem Dafoe, and Bobby Cannavale, and has worked for iconic brands such as Coca Cola, Nikon, and Victorinox. His work has been featured in The New Yorker, New York Magazine, and he has worked on publicity for “Chicago Fire,” “The Blacklist,” and “Blindspot.”

Sandro himself will be present at the event and will lead V.I.P. guests on a tour through his series. He will then discuss his work with Natasha Egan, the Executive Director of the Museum of Contemporary Photography. The evening will provide guests with a fresh cultural experience, a behind-the-scenes exploration of the work of a master photographer, and a chance to engage with arts-inclined members of the Chicago community. As the hub of French culture in the Midwest, the Alliance offers members and guests such unique opportunities all the time.

Portrait by Sandro MillerThe Alliance is committed to engaging with and presenting perspectives from all over the francophone world. At our annual Festival de la francophonie, the Alliance celebrates Francophone culture from pole to pole, and during the year, the Alliance presents speakers, authors, and films from regions as geographically distant as Senegal, Quebec, and Haiti. All our events are open to the public and reasonably priced. To come in touch with the breadth and richness of French culture, there is no better place to go than the Alliance.

A cocktail buffet by Dominique Tounge of Chez Moi, a unique French bistro located in Lincoln Park, will be served. In addition to photographs and libations, the evening will be punctuated by an auction of Sandro’s portraits, giving guests the opportunity to bring home a piece of Morocco.

The Alliance Française de Chicago is a 501 (3)(c) nonprofit, and must raise funds to engage in the quality public programming that defines its contributions to the Chicago community. “Eyes of Morocco” is a fundraising effort to support the Alliance and all the work it does.
