Kohl Children’s Museum was recently named one of the country’s 10 Best Children’s Museums by Parents Magazine.
The only Chicagoland museum on the list, Kohl Children’s Museum was ranked 6th out of the more than 300 children’s museums nationwide.
Parents says, “Pretend play doesn’t get any cooler than at this museum in Glenview, Illinois. At the Pet Vet exhibit, kids can nurse sick stuffed animals back to health. Over in Hands On House, your pint-size construction worker can lay bricks or tile a floor … Take a break from make-believe in the 2-acre outdoor space with a painting wall, mazes, and a giant kaleidoscope.”
“We are thrilled that Parents magazine and their readers have recognized Kohl Children’s Museum in this fashion,” said Sheridan Turner, President & CEO of the museum. “Since our founding just 25 years ago, we have worked tirelessly to provide a world-class family museum experience that nurtures a love of learning in young children. It’s an honor that our guests are telling us that our work and dedication is achieving our goal.”
Parents magazine extensively researched children’s museums to identify those with clever educational exhibits, mommy-and-me outings and festivals, healthy places for lunch, nursing areas, family restrooms and stroller parking. Parents then worked with the 300-plus members of the Association of Children’s Museums and eliminated those without a lot for kids under 3. Then the magazine asked the remaining museums questions to help decide the leaders. After tallying the scores, Parents went to local moms to ask for insider tips.
According to the Parents survey, the 10 Best Children’s Museums are:
1. The Children’s Museum of Houston
2. The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis
3. Please Touch Museum, Philadelphia
4. Boston Children’s Museum
5. Madison Children’s Museum
6. Kohl Children’s Museum
7. Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh
8. Children’s Museum of Phoenix
9. National Museum of Play, Rochester, NY
10. Minnesota Children’s Museum
