Since 2008, the Richard H. Driehaus Museum, Chicago’s premier destination for Gilded Age and Art Nouveau-era art, architecture, and design, has been following in the long tradition of giving back to the community through its educational and cultural public programs, exhibitions, and lectures.

Located just steps from the Magnificent Mile, the Chicago Landmark home in which the Museum is housed was originally commissioned and built by Samuel and Matilda Nickerson, founding trustees of the Art Institute of Chicago. The purpose-built gallery where the Nickersons first displayed their extensive art collection, before donating much of it to the Art Institute, still serves as a place of learning through art, design, and scholarship for today’s art aficionados and emerging talent.

The Museum’s permanent collection and temporary exhibitions are presented in an immersive experience that illuminates the history, culture, and urban fabric of Chicago. A new initiative, A Tale of Today, offers a window into the Gilded Age through the prism of contemporary work.

Now, the Richard H. Driehaus Museum is expanding its education department and growing its community partnerships in an effort to forge greater connections, and focus more integrally on serving the youth of Chicago.

By offering fellowships to emerging Chicago-based artists, concerts, lecture series, and daily museum tours alongside its internationally-renowned exhibitions, the Museum promotes architectural preservation and fosters appreciation of decorative arts and the Gilded Age.
