You Said It: Urban Initiatives Hosts the Women for a Stronger Chicago Breakfast

Forty-five female leaders from a variety of fields came together to join Urban Initiatives for the Women for a Stronger Chicago Breakfast. Speakers included Urban Initiatives’ Managing Director Julie Chelovich; the Urban Initiatives’ Onsite Program Director from Lawndale Elementary, Brandy McMahan; 6th grade participant from Kozminski Elementary, Alexis Ingram; Alaina Harkness, Fellow at the Brookings Institute; and Kathleen Strand, head of External Relations at McKinsey. During the event, speakers and guests explored the power of sport to transform communities and build a stronger Chicago.

Urban Initiatives currently serves more than 13,000 students in 51 schools located in 37 underserved Chicago communities. Through their catalog of three programs, Urban Initiatives uses sport and the power of play to strengthen the social fabric of Chicago communities.

Please join us for the 5th Anniversary Work to Play Cup on Saturday, June 3, located at the Midway Plaisance Park on the University of Chicago campus. The Work to Play Cup is a celebration of the hard work our students, parents and community stakeholders put in throughout the year, with nearly 1,400 CPS students and parents in attendance. Students play in a massive soccer tournament against one another, engaging their peers through broad, citywide networks in a diverse and inclusive space.
