Need a nudge to book that vacation? These hotels opening up their doors in 2018 are sure to help inspire your wanderlust. Plus, some of them are consummate hosts working to make the world a better place, whether that’s through environmental stewardship or charitable partnerships.
Here are 18 hotels we’re writing home about (or from!) in 2018.
The Source Hotel in Denver
Many hotels will greet you with a glass of champagne at check-in. But The Source Hotel in Denver, a craft beer mecca, will have a cold pint awaiting you. New Belgium will open a small-batch brewery inside the 100-room hotel, which also means in-room mini-bars come stocked with beer. The hotel will be adjacent to its sister property, The Source, an old foundry building that now houses an artisan market in Denver’s hip and arty River North (or RiNo as locals call it). A terrace on the hotel’s eighth floor will grow herbs that can be used in the hotel bar’s cocktails. Worth noting: Denver just became one of the first U.S. cities to require “green roofs,” an initiative that requires new developments 25,000 square feet or bigger to include a green roof with solar energy collection. The initiative was opposed by some developers, but The Source Hotel’s developer Kyle Zeppelin, of Zeppelin Development, was one of the initiative’s biggest supporters.

Hotel Zachary in Chicago
Wrigleyville will get its first boutique hotel, Hotel Zachary, just in time for baseball season. The seven-story building will include the 173-room hotel as well as boutiques and restaurants such as Big Star, Smoke Daddy, and West Town Bakery. The hotel will be at the corner of Clark and Addison streets, adjacent to historic Wrigley Field.

Celino South Beach in Miami
A glass-bottomed pool overlooking the ocean will undoubtedly be a star amenity at The Celino South Beach. This 132-room boutique hotel opening up on iconic Ocean Drive (you know it for its neon!) will take further advantage of its sun-soaked real estate with a rooftop sun deck and courtyard pool. Guests can expect the posh hotel to harken a 1940s Miami beach glam vibe.

Silversands Grenada on the island of Grenada
Silversands Grenada will beckon sun-seekers to the Caribbean with its luxe amenities, like a 100-meter pool (they’re claiming it’s the longest in the Caribbean) and seasonal playlists that can be sent to guests before their arrival to truly get them in vacation mode. But what really sets this hotel apart? Silversands Grenada will partner with Grenada Network of Rural Women Producers (or GRENROP), which provides jobs for single mothers on Grenada. The women will grow the majority of the fruits and vegetables for Silversands’ two restaurants, and the resort will commit to a monthly guarantee of how much it will purchase.

Baker’s Kay Resort in Key Largo, Florida
Making its debut on a former pineapple plantation, Baker’s Kay Resort in the Florida Keys will include a beachside tequila bar and a large selection of hot sauce with ingredients harvested and plucked from a rooftop herb garden. Of course, after taking the “heat” of the hot sauce, cool down in one of the property’s swimming pools with a waterfall grotto.

Tiny Urban Escapes in Indianapolis
Admittedly, we’re bending the definition of “hotel” a tad. But, this retreat is starting off with with two rad accomodations: shipping containers turned into luxury accomodations with glass walls. A few more are in the works for the Tiny Urban Escapes complex. These 160-square-feet digs were designed by Canadian designer Glasshaus and each booking comes with complimentary bike rentals to explore the nearby trails and Eagle Creek Park. While the two shipping containers aren’t visible to each other, they are close by and share a fire pit common area.

Bobby Hotel in Nashville, Tennessee
Bobby Hotel, debuting in downtown Nashville, will be an ideal basecamp for Music City visitors who want to watch live music, tour the museums, and enjoy the local craft beer scene. A great start (or end) to the night is on the hotel’s rooftop cocktail bar, where you’ll spot a repurposed 1956 Greyhound. The fun touch is meant to evoke the spirit of a “musician’s life on the road.”

Chautauqua Harbor Hotel in Village of Celoron, New York
Make comedy a central theme of your family vacation and head to the Village of Celoron, New York, a quaint lakefront community. Adjacent to the Chautauqua Harbor Hotel is Lucille Ball Memorial Park and the comedian’s childhood home is located just two blocks away at 59 Lucy Lane. Plus, in nearby Jamestown, New York, the National Comedy Center is scheduled to open in 2018. The center will be wholly dedicated to the art of comedy.

Shinola Hotel in Detroit
Sync up your next trip to Motor City with the opening of the Shinola Hotel. Shinola, the Detroit brand best known for its watches, is expanding its lifestyle reach with the opening of a hip, 130-room hotel with retail, restaurant, and living room area on the first floor.

Sophy Hyde Park in Chicago
Sophy is rooted in the Greek word “sophia,” which means wisdom and the dedication to excellence through the pursuit of knowledge. So it’s fitting that this 98-room hotel will open at the corner of 53rd Street and Dorchester Avenue on Chicago’s South Side, close to the University of Chicago and Barack Obama’s forthcoming presidential library. The hotel will feature artwork from contemporary Chicago artists.

Moxy in Chicago
Playful and chic, the Moxy Chicago will make its downtown debut in Chicago’s River North neighborhood. The lobby will feature game tables and an interactive digital guest book, plus a bar that doubles as the check-in desk so you’re greeted with a complimentary cocktail.

Barnsley Resort in Adairsville, Georgia
Dogs will be welcome, too, at this 55-room inn, which is inspired by English country homes from the turn of the 20th century. In fact, those who book a room at Barnsley Resort with the special “Pampered Pets for PAWS” rate will have the $75 pet fee waived and instead donated to PAWS, which is an animal shelter and rescue nonprofit.

The Porter in Portland, Oregon
With views of the Cascade Mountains and the Willamette River, the Porter Hotel is planted in the vibrant Fountain District. Visitors can explore the city, perusing the Portland Farmers Market or Portland Art Museum. Or, enjoy a spa day in the hotel’s forthcoming “meditation spa.” The Porter is partnering with Portland Japanese Garden, a nonprofit organization, to create a tranquil meditation garden to align with the hotel’s meditation spa.

Baltic Huis in Brooklyn, New York
Baltic Huis is just blocks from the Gowanus Canal, which is undergoing a major clean-up. Guests at the hotel can go on canoe trips down the canal with Dredgers Canoe Club to learn about the canal’s history, as well as how it became a Superfund site and how to prevent further pollution. As for the hotel itself, it’s got some tech-savvy amenities like phones that travelers can borrow to navigate the neighborhood. And, psst, the hotel will also have a speakeasy-style, underground coffee shop just below its lobby.

The Ramble Hotel in Denver
Cinema buffs, put Denver on your destination map. The forthcoming Ramble Hotel will include an intimate screening room, providing an opportunity for local filmmakers to showcase their films. Seventeenth century French salons play the muse for the hotel’s rooms. The Ramble Hotel in Denver will also be home to Death & Co’s first location outside of Manhattan.

Lido House in Newport Beach, California
Evoking a beach house vibe, the Lido House will open up in the Lido Marina Village, a complex with boutiques, shops, and restaurants. The hotel will be home to Topside, the only rooftop bar in Newport Beach.

Alila Koggala in Sri Lanka
Perched on Koggala Lake, the Alila Koggala is a basecamp for every kind of adventure. It’s near Mirissa Beach, which is famous for whale watching and dolphin spotting and is also close to low-country tea estates and the rainforests of Kanneliya and Kottawa. Worthy of a day trip is venturing to the wildlife reserve of Udawalawe, where you can spot elephants in their natural habitat.

Casa De Uco in Mendoza, Argentina
While not a brand-new hotel, Casa De Uco opened eco villas in its vineyards for the first time in 2018. Rooms, suites, and secluded bungalows are inside the vineyards and are sustainable with green rooftops, solar panels, geothermal energy in floorings and walls, and a self-contained water and heating system. For those who like their wine paired with adventure, the hotel has a program that offers wine tastings as well as a trek through the Andes Mountains and horseback riding through the vineyards.
