Fall Movie Guide: 9 Films to See in Theaters

Fall Movie Guide: 9 Films to See in Theaters

Fall’s selection of new films brings back old friends, takes us to wondrous lands and thrills us to no end. Here are the season’s films we can’t wait to see.

Bridget Jones’s Baby

Sept. 16

Bridget Jones is back! Join everyone’s favorite rom-com crew for what promises to be a hilarious look at the next page in the relatable heroine’s book.

The Magnificent Seven

Sept. 23

Here’s hoping this remake lives up to the original. Scene-stealing Chris Pratt is becoming one of our favorite actors, and you can never go wrong with Denzel Washington.

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children

Sept. 30

Whimsy is the word here. From the mind of Tim Burton (plus the book series it’s based on), “Miss Peregrine” is a clash of light and dark — a new sort of fairy tale.

Denial

Sept. 30

Powerhouses Rachael Weisz, Tom Wilkinson and Timothy Spall star in this film that asks the compelling question: How can anyone deny the Holocaust took place?

The Birth of a Nation

Oct. 7

Though praise has been heaped on “The Birth of a Nation” as a film, the news about director, writer and star Nat Parker is overshadowing the movie itself. It’s hard to decide if you can separate the two, but the controversy facilitates important dialogue.

The Girl on the Train

Oct. 7

It was a book that no one could put down; now one of the best thrillers of recent years takes the screen and stars Emily Blunt as the troubled lead character. Will this be the next “Gone Girl”?

Trolls

Nov. 4

Maybe best know to many for being the movie that brought us new Justin Timberlake music. This one’s for the kids and it looks adorable.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

Nov. 18

Harry Potter fans, line up. This is our top pick for the fall. Even though this isn’t Harry Potter, it is Newt Scamander; and it’s not Hogwarts, but New York. We still can’t wait.

Moana

Nov. 23

Disney’s latest offering featuring music by Lin-Manuel Miranda (of “Hamilton” fame) takes us on an ocean adventure with a demigod and an adventurous teen girl from the South Pacific.
