Halloween Orange Sherbet Punch (via The Casual Craftlete)

Hosting a Halloween party this year? This easy-to-make sweet drink will be a hit at kid and adult parties alike (we’re not opposed to spiking for a grown-up costume party). Serve with black and orange paper straws for a decadent drink that looks as good as it tastes.

Mummy Calzone with Bloody Bolognese (via Lollipopsicle)

Swap Snickers for spinach with this Mummy Calzone recipe that’s so fun kids won’t be able to resist the leafy green. Prefer marinara to pesto or green peppers to spinach? You can use any ingredients you like to personalize your mummy, writes blogger Alexandra Jones.

  • 1 package pizza dough (Trader Joe’s dough makes one 12-inch pizza, so if you are making your own, most recipes make enough for two mummies)
  • 1/4 cup pesto
  • 1/2 cup sautéed spinach
  • 1 shallot, sautéed
  • 2 ounces mozzarella
  • 1 ounce feta
  • One green olive with pimento, cut in half (eyes)
  • One slice pepperoni, cut in half (mouth)
  • One cheddar stick cracker (Egyptian Crook that mummies hold, available at Trader Joe’s)
  • 2 cups Bolognese, or any recipe you like

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

2. Roll out dough (with a little flour if needed) into a rectangle about 12-by-9 inches.

3. Prep a baking sheet with parchment or cooking spray, place dough on sheet.

4. Cut dough rectangle into 10 strips as shown in photo here.

5. Spread out toppings evenly.

6. Weave strips of dough over each other and ingredients.

7. Make sure you shape your head with dough and place desired facial features and crook (cheddar stick cracker). Bake 20 minutes. Serve with a bowl of heated Bolognese (or basic marinara sauce) and enjoy at your next monster mash!

Cupcake in a Jar: Pumpkin Cake with Cinnamon Buttercream Frosting (via Two Sisters Crafting Blog)

  • Pillsbury Perfectly Pumpkin Premium Cake Mix
  • Orange food coloring
  • The Best Buttercream Frosting (recipe here)
  • Cinnamon
  • Mason jars
  • Ribbon
  • Plastic utensil

Directions:

1. Bake Pillsbury’s Perfectly Pumpkin Premium Cake Mix cupcakes according to package directions. Add orange food coloring to batter so the cake looks more striking in the Mason jars.

2. Make the Best Buttercream Frosting Recipe according to directions, adding 1 teaspoon of cinnamon.

3. Depending on the size of the jar you use, you’ll need more than one cupcake for each cupcake in a jar. Break apart the cupcake and add it to the Mason jar to create the first layer. Then add a layer of the Cinnamon Buttercream Frosting—you don’t need to add too much. Use a pastry bag or a plastic bag with a hole cut out of one corner to pipe frosting in a circle atop the cake. (You want the frosting to bump up to the inside edge of the jar so it looks pretty from the outside.)

4. Add a second layer of cupcake pieces to the Mason jar. Finally, swirl in a layer of Cinnamon Buttercream Frosting.

5. Secure the lid of the jar, and attach a plastic utensil to the Cupcake in a Jar with a decorative ribbon.

Candy Corn Monster Munch (via A Pumpkin & A Princess)

Give kids something else to munch on this Halloween besides pounds upon pounds of fun-sized Reese’s and Twix bars. Blogger Crystal Owens recommends this popcorn munch mix for scary movie nights, suggesting you add in any mixings or toppings of your choice (including a peppermint Christmas version!).

  • 1/2 cup popcorn kernels
  • 1/2 cup orange candy melts
  • 1/2 cup black candy melts
  • 1/2 cup candy corn M&M’s
  • 1/2 cup candy corn
  • Edible monster eyes

Directions:

1. Cover a 13-by-9-inch baking sheet with waxed paper. Make popcorn and lay a single layer on covered baking sheet.

2. Melt candy melts in separate bowls over a double boiler or in the microwave. Stir frequently until completely melted.

3. Pour candy melts into disposable piping bags or thick Ziploc bags. Use a napkin or towel to hold the bag if it’s too hot. Snip off the tip of the bag and drizzle candy melts onto popcorn. Drizzle the black candy melts first, add the rest of the candy, then drizzle the orange candy melts on top. Use about 1 tablespoon of edible eyes (found at Hobby Lobby). Allow to cool, then break apart and enjoy!
