We asked Keith MacNaught, sales manager of Cedar Roofing Company, to tell us more about the mission and passions that drive the dedicated team.
Make It Better: Briefly describe your business philosophy.
Keith MacNaught: Cedar Roofing Company is family owned and operated, proudly serving Illinois and Wisconsin communities since 1982. Although we began simply as Cedar Roofing Company, we quickly found that our customers were looking for much more than just cedar products.
Over the years, our company’s services have expanded to include asphalt, slate, tile, metal, flat, and commercial roofing, as well as custom metalwork, gutters, siding, skylights, and more. As our company has grown, so has our reputation as a leader in quality workmanship. We strive to expand and develop the skills that have earned us this reputation through ongoing education and on the job training for all our employees.
We are proud to bring our years of experience and technical capability to every project we undertake, especially YOUR next project.
Which product (or service) that you offer is your favorite, and why?
It’s really difficult to pick a favorite product, but at CRC, our first love has always been cedar shakes and shingles. They have a special warmth and elegance that is both tasteful and timeless. Cedar is lightweight as well as wind and impact resistant. It’s a truly green product that has a high R-value to keep your house cool in summer and warm in winter. Cedar requires true craftsmanship to install correctly, and at Cedar Roofing Company, our installers are experts.
Tell us about how your business gives back to the community and which organizations or initiatives you’re most passionate about supporting. Why is that important to your organization?
Besides contributing to local charities that our employees are passionate about, we have also partnered with other local businesses to provide a new roofing system for the PADS (Providing Advocacy, Dignity & Shelter) Lake County headquarters. We also donate roofing materials to restore local historic buildings, as well as put roofs on affordable housing in lower income neighborhoods.
How has your business adapted to support the demands of consumers for more sustainable and socially responsible products and services?
We are committed to educating ourselves and our customers about new developments in technology and materials available today. Synthetic roofing materials made from recycled plastic or rubber are lightweight, mold, pest, impact and fire resistant and are virtually maintenance-free. In 2019, there are new advances with solar roofing tiles that we’re very excited about.
