Warm Coats, Cool Prices

coats_North_Face_Child_Coat2Since fall decided to skip the North Shore this year, I’ve been all about finding warm winter coats for my family. And not only did I discover coats my family will love, but I also found some really good deals at our local retailers.

One quick note: Don’t forget about the great ski shops on the North Shore. I was shocked at the selection of coats the Scandinavian Ski and Snowboard Shop in Glenview and Highland Park’s Williams Ski & Patio had for the whole family.

For the kids:

Penny’s From Heaven in Lake Forest wants to make sure that your children look good when they’re bundled up this winter. Right now all of their winter coats, many from the Onekid or Floriane lines, are 50 percent off.

coats_Columbia_snowsuit2At Wilmette’s Lad & Lassie, all of their North Face coats are on sale.

Forest Bootery has long been touted for its great shoes and handbags. But did you know they have great outerwear too? A large selection of this season’s Columbia (hooded snowsuit, pale pink, lined in fleece, pictured at left. On sale for $42) and North Face (hooded, fur-trimmed white snow jacket, pictured above. On sale for $139) coats and fleece jackets line the walls. But in the back, by the children’s shoes, are a rack of discounted children’s coats and snowsuits that are 30 percent off the original price. The coats are still a little pricey, but if you love these labels, they’re definitely worth a look.

For the man in your life:

coats_Target_Toggle_Coat2If you’re a man and in need of a coat, you’re in luck! REI in Northbrook and Erehwon in Bannockburn were loaded with inventory for men, much of it discounted at least 20 to 30 percent. However, it was a black wool toggle coat at Target (pictured right) that caught my eye for $79.99. With deep pockets and a hood, it will make any man in your life (your husband, your dad, your teenage son) look as if he just stepped out of a magazine.

For you:

Of course, I’ve saved the best for last. On a recent trip to Evanston’s hip boutique Gavin, I found the most darling emerald green wool peacoat, with button-trimmed cuffs and a belted back. Fully lined and made by BB Dakota (pictured below), this coat retails for $115. A-dorable!
