Better Makers: Jermaine Dye Hosts 4th Annual Celebrity Golf Classic for Fresh Start Caring For Kids Foundation

Chicago White Sox 2005 World Series MVP Jermaine Dye hosted the 4th Annual Celebrity Golf Classic to benefit Fresh Start Caring For Kids Foundation June 10-11. The annual, two-day event has raised more than $185,000 to date and 100 percent of the proceeds directly benefit the medical needs of children.

Fresh Start Caring For Kids Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing children with no-cost reconstructive surgery and follow-up medical care. Since June 2014, Fresh Start has provided 74 patients with no-cost surgeries and more than $3 million in donated medical services. They are also a Make It Better Philanthropy Award winner.

Dye and Honorary Chairperson Kevin Miller got the party started, quite literally, on Sunday by co-hosting the pre-tournament party at Rivers Casino in Des Plaines, Illinois. The evening was filled with star-studded mingling and both live and silent auctions offering prizes, experience packages, and various sports memorabilia.

The following Monday morning, the golf outing took place at The Glen Club in Glenview, Illinois. Golfers teed off with celebrities, engaged in friendly competition, and enjoyed a fantastic lunch. Celebrity attendees included Lance Briggs, John Garland, Dan Paqua, Marcus Allen, Tim Brown, Bo Jackson, Scott Podsednik, Harold Baines, Vince Coleman, Fergie Jenkins, Adam Russell, Stephen Bardo, Chuck Garfien, and Toni Kukoc.

This event was made possible by the generous support and hard-work of Dye, Miller, golfers, guests, volunteers, and donors. In addition, Fresh Start would like to thank The University of Chicago Medicine Comer Children’s Hospital, and the services donated by doctors, clinicians, and other medical professionals.
