Supporting new frontiers in pediatric medicine and research, the Founders’ Board of Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago has made a three-year commitment of raising $7.5 million. Focusing on three key areas, Lurie Children’s reports the pledge will support “transformational research, community-based healthcare delivery and an innovative endowed chair in medical ethics.”
The board held the 59th Annual Pro Amateur Golf Championship June 23-24, raising over $1.7 million for the children’s hospital. The Pro Am dates back to 1960 when Woman’s Board member Sissy Wheeler first brought forth the idea. The event has raised over $20 million for the hospital ever since.
Attended by 500 Chicagoans, the tournament took place over two days at two different courses.
The festivities kicked off on Sunday with “Dinner on the Bluff” at Shoreacres in Lake Bluff. Guests enjoyed an elegant dinner at the course, honoring the event’s long-standing commitment to Lurie Children’s. On day two, golf professionals — from 50 of the top private country clubs in the nation — joined forces with participating amateur foursomes at Onwentsia Club in Lake Forest for a day of competition on the green. Teams chose between a scramble and best ball tournament.
No round of golf is complete without a round of drinks. The tournament concluded with a “19th Hole Party,” complete with cocktails, a gourmet dinner, and awards.
The 2019 Pro Am was made possible thanks to the co-chairs, Founders’ Board members Karen McEniry and Wells Ryan, and the Men’s Golf Committee, chaired by Brian Flanigan and Andy Andress.
