As senior executive vice president and CEO of Exelon Utilities, Anne Pramaggiore is responsible for Exelon’s utility businesses, which together form the nation’s largest electric and natural gas distribution company. The Exelon utilities — Atlantic City Electric, Baltimore Gas & Electric (BGE), Commonwealth Edison Company (ComEd), Delmarva, PECO, and Pepco — provide about 22 million people across the District of Columbia, Delaware, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania with safe, reliable, and affordable electricity and natural gas service.
Prior to her current position, Pramaggiore was the first woman to serve as president and CEO of Commonwealth Edison (ComEd), Illinois’s largest utility company delivering electricity to 4 million customers in Chicago and Northern Illinois.
Under Pramaggiore’ s leadership, ComEd implemented the Energy Infrastructure Modernization Act (also known as the Smart Grid Law) in 2011, a multi-year, $2.6 billion infrastructure modernization program and corresponding regulatory model redesign, resulting in record-breaking reliability, including the fewest and shortest outages ever experienced by ComEd customers and leading to the highest customer satisfaction scores in the Company’s 100-year history. The Smart Grid Program also infused the Illinois economy with thousands of local jobs and billions of dollars supply chain spend with more than one-third of the dollars going to diverse suppliers. Since 2011, ComEd has injected almost $12 billion of supply chain spend into the Illinois economy, including $3.3 billion in Illinois diverse supply chain spend helping to grow and develop minority and women-owned businesses.
Pramaggiore also drove the 2016 passage of the Future Energy Jobs Act (FEJA), ground-breaking energy legislation aimed at growing renewable energy development in Illinois, creating thousands of clean energy jobs and significantly expanding funding for customer energy efficiency programs.
A strong advocate for workforce development and diversity, Pramaggiore led the creation of an array of community and education programs at ComEd to help increase diversity within the energy and construction industries. They include successful STEM-related education programs for teen girls and African American and Latino high-school students; CONSTRUCT, a first-of-its-kind job training program designed to prepare diverse candidates for jobs in the construction and new energy trades; and Energy Force, in which developmentally-disabled adults are trained to serve as ambassadors for energy efficiency.
Pramaggiore has been recognized nationally as a leader in the evolving transformation of the energy industry. In 2017 she was named the Energy Thought Summit’s “Thought Leader of the Year,” and also that year was honored for her achievements by the Keystone Policy Center. She co-chaired the Aspen Institute’s national Energy Policy Forum in 2016 and 2017.
She is the Chair of the Board of Directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, and serves on the Board of Directors for Motorola Solutions, Inc., Babcock and Wilcox Enterprises, the National Safety Council, and several civic and community organizations.
Pramaggiore joined ComEd in 1998 to work on the company’s transition to competitive energy markets under the Illinois Consumer Choice Law of 1997. In her role as ComEd’s lead lawyer and as head of Regulatory Policy, she led major policy work around the restructuring of the Illinois electric industry.
In 2009 she was appointed as ComEd’s COO and became responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations on the electric grid and in customer operations.
She is a 1989 graduate of DePaul University School of Law and served as editor-in-chief of the school’s Law Review. She has a bachelor’s degree in Communications and Theater from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.
