Highland Park,

Luster Learning Institute’s Calm Classroom program is a research-based curriculum of 30 second to 2 minute breathing, concentration, relaxation and stretching techniques designed to help students and educators develop self awareness, mental focus, inner calm and cooperative behavior. Calm Classroom is implemented in the classroom on a school wide basis through teacher professional development training, student classroom mentoring, and the development of a long-term support structure for the administration. The Calm Classroom program addresses various issues such as:

  • Violent behavior
  • Repetitive classroom misconduct
  • Emotional instability
  • Poor academic performance
  • Limited attention spans
  • Mild bullying
  • Inability to manage stress
  • Depression and isolation

Calm Classroom is serving 42,000 students in 70 Chicago and suburban schools. In Chicago Public Schools, where over 80% of students are from low income households, research has shown dramatic decreases in suspensions, classroom misconduct and improved standardized test scores.

Calm Classroom is a social and emotional learning program that integrates with current Response To Intervention (RTI) and Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) behavioral programs.

Individual teachers can also purchase the curriculum and implement the program directly in their classrooms.
