Although it’s always sad to see summer end, it’s exciting to anticipate the new trends of the fall season.
The upcoming styles are modern, bold and can be worn by women of all ages.
Navy and Metallic Eyes
Regina Sneor, makeup artist and owner of D’Works, says “Along with your basic black, navy is going to be huge this fall, from clothing to makeup. Incorporate the metallic trend by adding touches of silver for blondes and gold for brunettes.”
To get the look: Pair a navy eyeliner with metallic eye shadow.
Matte Nails
Tibi, Diane Von Furstenberg, and Karen Walker sent models down the runway with no-shine manicures. Achieve this edgy look with matte polishes in rich shades like wine and charcoal.
To get the look: Try Deborah Lippmann's “Red Silk Boxers,” or make any color matte with Essie's “Matte About You Matte Finisher.”
Defined Brows
“Defined brows are no secret,” Sneor says. “Maintaining a good arch with waxing, tweezing or threading is important to define a better brow. Putting color on top of unkempt brows can look thick and sloppy.” Once your brows are groomed, fill in any empty patches with a colored pencil.
To get the look: Pick up a T. LeClerc Eyebrow Pencil or Anastasia Brow Kit.
Dark Lips
Sneor suggests layering a lip stain with your lipstick to create a stronger color. When the lipstick wears off, you’re still left with a gorgeous stain underneath.
To get the look: For stain, try Serge Lutens Water Lip Color and for lipstick, try Tom Ford Beauty’s array of highly pigmented shades.
Sideswept Bangs and Lots of Volume
Taking inspiration from the 1940s and 1970s, fall hair is all about luxury and drama. Swap blunt bangs for sideswept ones. Lift hair at the root by teasing it with a comb. This will create the voluminous look that was big at Bottega Veneta’s and Marc Jacobs’ runways presentations.

Hair Accessories
What better way to cover up a bad hair day than with a fabulous accessory? Fedoras and leather baseball caps are IN. Inspired by The Great Gatsby, headbands are also making a comeback, particularly ones with embellishments. Jazz up a simple ponytail with a piece of leather wrapped around your hairband.
To get the look: Rock the Sephora leather wrap ponytail holder, Rag & Bone fedora, ASOS headbands or J.C. Penney faux leather baseball cap.
Monochromatic Hair Color
It’s time to ditch the ombré highlights and colored streaks. This season, hair should look natural and all one color. According to Kim Avino, a senior colorist at Pascal Pour Elle in Glencoe, “Since your skin tone is paler in the fall, tone things down and go a bit deeper with your color to create some contrast. Rich chocolate and auburn are always in style.”
