Joffrey Ballet to Hold Auditions for the Children’s Cast of ‘Nutcracker’

Joffrey Ballet: Christopher Wheeldon’s "Nutcracker"

Dancers between 7 and 18 years old from the Chicago area are invited to audition for a role in Joffrey Ballet‘s world premiere of Tony Award-winner Christopher Wheeldon’s “Nutcracker.” The annual audition, which is held at Joffrey Tower, is for all young dancers from any school or studio.

Dancers must bring an audition form, a 4 x 6 headshot (ladies must have hair in a bun) and proof of age (ID, passport, birth certificate). For more details and to RSVP and access the audition form, visit Joffrey Ballet’s website.

Rehearsals at Joffrey Tower will begin Sept. 25 and continue through December. Performances will take place from Dec. 10-30 at the Auditorium Theatre. There is no performance on Dec. 25.

The audition dates and times are as follows:

  • Wednesday, Sept. 7: Ladies ages 11-18, height 5’0”-5’6” (Registration from 6 to 7 p.m., audition from 7 to 8:30 p.m.)
  • Sunday, Sept. 11: Ladies ages 7-9, maximum height 4’5” (Registration from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., audition from 10:30 a.m. to noon)
  • Sunday, Sept. 11: Men ages 10-17, maximum height 5’8” (Registration from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., audition from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.)
  • Sunday, Sept. 11: Ladies ages 10-16, height between 4’6”-5’0” (Registration from 1-2 p.m., audition from 2 to 5 p.m.)
