There are plenty of ways to enjoy the snow this weekend—but there will also be a hint of spring.
No, it won’t be because of the weather, but Chicago Botanic Garden’s Tu B’Shevat will give you an afternoon to think all about trees. And if you’re still loving the snow, stop by Winterfest in Libertyville or learn how to snowshoe in Deerfield.
Here are five events to enjoy this weekend:
The 72nd Annual Dolphin Show: Shrek the Musical
January 24 – 26
Evanston
Northwestern’s Dolphin Show is the largest student-produced musical in the country. This year, they’re bringing everyone’s favorite ogre to life. Can’t make it? The fun continues next weekend, so buy your tickets today!
Introduction to Snowshoeing
Saturday, Jan. 25
Deerfield
With all this snow on the ground, you might as well learn a new way to get around. Professional instructors from the REI Outdoor School will be on hand to show the appropriate technique and how to use the equipment.
Randolph Street’s Wonderful Winter Market
January 25 – 26
Chicago
Find the perfect Valentine’s Day gift (or a little something for yourself) at the 3rd annual Wonderful Winter Market. Sit for a charcoal drawing, have a custom love letter created by a panel of poets or bring an heirloom to be appraised on site.
Winterfest
Saturday, Jan. 25
Libertyville
Join A. Perry Homes for an afternoon of sledding, ice skating, hockey, luge runs and more. Warm up with hot chocolate and delicious food and cocktails. You can also help Northwestern Settlement House by donating baby items or toiletries.
Tu B’Shevat
Celebrate the Jewish Festival of Trees with free activities at Chicago Botanic Garden. Plant a seedling for your home, read books, discover different varieties of trees in the greenhouse and more.
