How can we stir up some festive cheer while we are stuck at home over the holidays? Since we have the time, it’s the perfect excuse to have a marathon of movies and tv shows that bring just a bit of normalcy back into our lives. New in 2020

“The Christmas Chronicles: Part 2”

A follow up to last year’s big Netflix hit, Part 2 sees the kids all grown up. Kate ends up in the North Pole, unhappy over her mom’s new relationship, which means we get a lot more of Goldie Hawn as Mrs. Clause in this family-friendly sequel.

“Happiest Season”

Available on Hulu

This holiday movie has been receiving a lot of hype and discussion since its release, especially on Twitter. With a 83% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, you’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and to not spoil anything, we’ll just say two words: Aubrey Plaza.

“Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey”

Available on Netflix

Settle in for this whimsical and musical adventure that the entire family will enjoy. Legendary toymaker Jeronicus Jangle (played by Academy Award winner Forest Whitaker) makes fanciful inventions burst with whimsy and wonder. But the story unfolds when his trusted apprentice (Emmy winner Keegan-Michael Key) steals his most prized creation, leaving his equally bright and inventive granddaughter to reawaken the magic within.

“The Lego Star Wars Holiday Special”

The holidays look a little different in a galaxy far, far away. As Fin, Poe, BB-8 and Chewie prepare to celebrate “Life Day” aboard the Millennium Falcon, Rey takes off on a cross-timeline adventure, crossing paths with friends, foes, and Jedi masters past and present. Packed with references and Easter Eggs for Star Wars fans, grown-ups will enjoy this 44-minute Disney+ special as much kids will.

“Mariah Carey’s Magical Christmas Special”

The Queen of Christmas is back this year with a glorious musical special on Apple TV+. And she is not alone–special guests include Ariana Grande, Jennifer Hudson, Snoop Dog and more.

“Angela’s Christmas Wish”

The kids will love this one (and frankly, we can all relate to this tale right now). With her father working far away in Australia, a determined Angela makes a plan — and a heartfelt wish — to reunite her family in time for the holidays.

“Miracle on 34th Street”

The ultimate Christmas classic from 1947 sees Santa show up at Macy’s. The 1994 update is streaming on Hulu.

“White Christmas”

This 1954 Christmas classic follows the tale of two war buddies chasing after a pair of singing sisters — and features the eponymous classic holiday song, crooned by Bing Crosby himself.

“A Christmas Carol”

Streaming on Starz

While there are a lot of cinematic versions of Charles Dickens’ timeless tale, the 1984 version with George C. Scott is a firm favorite, though it’s also worth checking out the 1951 classic version as well, available for purchase on Amazon.

“It’s a Wonderful Life”

Based on the classic Dr. Seuss story, the film stars Jim Carrey in an endearing and hilarious live action version of this beloved book.
