Whether you’ve been missing “Hamilton” since it left the Chicago stage in January of 2020, or you threw away your shot the first time around — just you wait. After taking Chicago by storm with a record-breaking three-year run, “Hamilton” is returning to Chicago’s James M. Nederlander Theatre September 13, 2023.
“We welcome ‘Hamilton’ back to its Chicago home, thrilled to present the return of this brilliant award-winning modern Broadway classic,” said Lou Raizin, President of Broadway In Chicago.
Writer and composer-lyricist Lin-Manuel Miranda originated the lead role of Alexander Hamilton alongside a star-studded founding Broadway cast that included Leslie Odom Jr., Phillipa Soo, Renee Elise Goldsberry, Daveed Diggs, Christopher Jackson, Jonathan Groff, Okieriete Onaodowan, Anthony Ramos, and Jasmine Cephas Jones. Through a score that blends hip-hop, jazz, R&B, and Broadway, the show tells the story of Hamilton, an American founding father and immigrant from the West Indies, who became George Washington’s right-hand man during the Revolutionary War and was the new nation’s first Treasury Secretary.
Based on the 2004 book Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow, “Hamilton” has had a profound impact on culture, politics and education, and has won Tony®, Grammy®, and Olivier Awards, the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, and an unprecedented special citation from the Kennedy Center Honors.
Directed by Thomas Kail, “Hamilton” is choreographed by Andy Blankenbuehler, with musical supervision and orchestrations by Alex Lacamoire.
