Better or Bust: Magnolia Bakery’s Holiday Desserts

“Sex and the City” was right—these desserts are good!

We recently tasted a number of Magnolia Bakery’s holiday offerings and were delighted with them (they get a rating of “better”). We particularly loved the red velvet mini-cheesecakes with a chocolate cookie crust ($6.50 each, over-the-top rich and generally to-die-for), the “famous” banana pudding—a stunner, totally deserving of its title ($4.75 for 12 oz.), and the gingerbread cupcakes with light-as-a-feather vanilla bean meringue frosting ($3.50 each).

Here’s a list of Magnolia’s other holiday offerings. Note: Some people (including us) find the buttercream frosting on some of Magnolia’s cupcakes to be too sweet—we prefer the meringue frosting for this reason. But, we’re betting your children wouldn’t notice a difference …

Happy Holidays!

Note: Magnolia Bakery is located on the first floor of Block 37, at 108 N. State St. in downtown Chicago.
