2011 Children’s Fairs and Festivals

Kid fests mean summer fun!

 

The months of June and July mean more than just hot weather; kid festivals in these months are the perfect opportunity to entertain your kids and have some quality family fun!  While all have amusing events and games for kids, most fests also have entertainment for adults, so the whole family will be content.  Live bands, comedians, entertainers, contests, and of course amazing foods will make these festivals the highlight of your summer months.

Picnic in the Park
Friday, June 10
North School Park – Arlington Heights Road and Eastman
Arlington Heights, IL 60004
11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Assemble your friends and family for a day sponsored by the Arlington Heights Park District filled with activities for kids including moonwalks, an inflatable slide, balloon sculptures, face painting, free give-aways, and entertainment. Buy lunch from a vendor at the event or pack your own picnic lunch. Musical entertainment includes Raisin Rhyme, a blend of music and education aimed at kids, at 11:30 a.m.  Then at 1:00 p.m. the acappella group Ac Rock will perform a combination of humor and music that will be fun and entertaining for the whole family!

St. Norbert Block Party

$5 until 7 p.m. and $10 after 7 p.m.

This 5th annual Block Party is modeled after Chicago’s famous neighborhood street festivals.  Last year’s attendance reached 2,000 with this years attendance expected to reach 3,000 people.  This North Shore summer kickoff event starts with a Kid’s Fun Run, a one mile fun run, and a CARA certified 5K at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 11th (register at 7 a.m.).  Join them for family fun at the festival including a kids’ corner with games, inflatables, face painting, and a DJ.  Live entertainment will also be playing throughout the party with the headliner, Vertigo U2 Tribute Band, going on at 8 p.m.

Libertyville Days Festival

Downtown Libertyville

The Libertyville Civic Center Foundation sponsors this event to support the Libertyville Civic Center Foundation.  Festival attractions include a carnival, Taste of Libertyville, the Arts and Crafts Fair, and the Beer Garden.

Throughout the festival there will be entertainment on the main stage at Church and Brainerd streets.   Family entertainment and activities include pageants on Thursday, a Children’s Party on Friday, a parade Saturday, and a watermelon eating contest on Sunday among many other family fun activities!

Independence Day 2011

Gillson Park, 800 Gillson Park Drive, Wilmette

The Wilmette Park District hosts this Independence Day celebration involving games and rides for kids, entertainment, performances, and Tastefest.  The Grand Fireworks display is set to ignite at 9:30 p.m.  Entertainment includes live music, a magic show, games, races, mini golf, a juggler, and even a man on stilts.  A full schedule of events is available at the website below.  The special Pace shuttle bus service will transport people from parking at Edens Plaza or from the METRA commuter lot to Gillson Park for $3.50 (kids under 7 for free).  Join other families in the North Shore area for a day of family fun and fireworks!
